Jaipuri razais are a type of traditional Indian quilt that have been used for centuries. Originating in the city of Jaipur in Rajasthan, India, these quilts are made from a variety of fabrics, including cotton, silk, and wool. The quilts are usually brightly colored and feature intricate patterns and designs.

The history of these razais dates back to the 16th century, when the Mughal Empire was in power. During this time, the Mughal rulers encouraged the production of these quilts, which were used as bedding and clothing. The quilts were also used to decorate the walls of palaces and other important buildings.

The functionality of the Jaipuri razai is as important as the artisanry that goes into making it.  Although these quilts were handmade, soft and snuggly, they are by no means delicate.  These quilts are, in fact, quite durable.  This is not surprising when one considers the history and geography of the region that the Jaipur razai originated in.  Rajasthan is located in northwestern India.  Bordering on Pakistan, Rajasthan encompasses the Aravalli Mountain Range and the Thar (Great Indian) Desert.  Throughout Rajasthan, the terrain is inhospitable and the weather can get bitterly cold, especially at night.  Traditionally, Rajasthanis were often on the move.  Shepherds, traders, soldiers and warriors, itinerant bards, and others traveling by camel caravan were in need of a covering to carry with them that would keep them warm in the cold desert nights and yet be easy to carry.  So the Jaipuri razai by necessity had to be as long-lasting and convenient to carry, as it was warm and comfortable to use.

Today, Jaipuri razais are still popular in India and are used for a variety of purposes. They are often used as bedding, as well as for clothing and home decor. The quilts are also used to make traditional Indian garments, such as saris and salwar kameez. In addition to their traditional uses, Jaipuri razais are also popular among modern-day fashion designers. The quilts are often used to create unique and stylish garments, such as jackets, skirts, and dresses. The quilts are also used to make accessories, such as bags and purses.

Jaipuri razais are a beautiful and versatile type of quilt that have been used for centuries. Whether you’re looking for a traditional bedding option or a unique fashion statement, our quilts are sure to add a touch of elegance to any home.
